The Project
Optimizing the placement and counting of goods in large industrial spaces using unmanned aerial vehicles
Description of physical object
The purpose of the project is to develop an integrated system which, through the management and processing of data from the company's information systems, the processing of data coming from unmanned aircraft, the application of specialized computational methods and the special optimization method, will perform automated inventory counting, propose optimal placement of the produced products according to the specifications selected by the user and assist in decision-making.
Specifically, within the framework of the project, the following will be implemented:
Management and processing of data in the company's information systems.
Mechanisms and technologies will be developed to integrate data from different sources and different time periods, and to communicate and interconnect different systems to build a data warehouse. One of the goals of this project is to develop and implement algorithms for extracting Business Analytics in the form of indicators, tables and graphs from data sets from a product warehouse, in order to highlight useful information for management and decision-making. The display of statistical analyses in the form of tables, graphs and cubes (cubes, pivot tables) through a web application with a customized appearance on smart devices will maximize efficiency for decision-making and create a product with great added value for the business, which will be able to be exploited commercially.
Such products (e.g. Google Analytics) and applications are a magnet for many businesses that realize the help that science can give to their business.
Management of manned aircraft and data processing
Test flights will be carried out to properly configure the UAVs. At the same time, based on the data collected by the UAVs, methods and parameterizations will be sought so that the products are correctly recorded in terms of their location and quantity.
Development and implementation of specialized computational methods
Specialized computational methods will be developed which, based on the data collected by the UAVs, will locate the product, its location and measure the quantity per location and per product.
Development of a special optimization method
Based on the information from the data warehouse (A) and the results of the computational methods (C), a special optimization method will be developed which aims at the optimal placement of the produced products in the warehouse based on specific specifications, for example based on expected sales, available resources, etc.
Integrated system development
An integrated web platform and application for smart mobile devices will be developed that will perform automated inventory counting, suggest optimal product placement according to the specifications selected by the user, and assist in decision-making. The development of the proposed platform will be implemented by the Department of Informatics, Computers and Telecommunications Engineering of the University of Athens - Serres Campus and the Postgraduate Program in Applied Informatics.
